Balls And Your Billiard Perfomance

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009

Billiards or billiard is widely popular this time, but there is something what is not really known in billiards. It is about billiard balls…
Not having the perfect set of billiard balls can certainly be a sad factor for anyone who loves to play pool. This is one of the essentials of every game. Ask a seasoned player and they will tell you that getting the basic equipment and tools right is the main thing for every player who wants to succeed in each game.

Billiard balls are the round spheres that are used when playing a game of pool. The difference in each ball lies in the friction and coating of it and is an important factor looked for by professionals. Usually players who are quite serious about the game and its rules will use a different set of billiard balls for each game.

Games such as Carom use only around one or two colors. Billiard balls are quite different from this. If it is yellow, blue, red, black or even burgundy you need, there will be enough of billiard balls to match the color. A mixture of these colors contrast well with the green background portrayed by each pool table.

Sometimes you may think that the only difference between each of the billiard balls is its color. But think again. An experienced player will tell you that the weight of each ball is different. This can have an impact on the players’ performance. Start to play the game and you will feel the difference in minutes.

If you didn’t know anything about billiards, why not learn about it today? Most of the billiard balls have a number on them. If you look at the balls used for the game of Carom, you’d notice that they are not numbered. The billiard balls that come in single colors are called solids. The balls that come in two colors are called stripes.

The normal type of billiard balls used will be much smaller than the balls used for Carom. If you are a trainee player, there are also billiard balls that could be used for this purpose. Such billiard balls will have target rings marked in them, giving the player an idea as to where he or she needs to strike.

Ballroom dancing

Sunday, June 7th, 2009

Co-authored by: White Womens Laptop Totes. Ballroom dance means kind of social dances where a couple would dance together following very common steps.  Ballroom dance derivates from the word ‘ball’ (early 18th century social events patronized by the high class people) that successively comes from the Latin word ‘ballare’ with the meaning ‘to dance’.  The most widely found types of ballroom dance could be mentioned as Quickstep, Tango, Slow Foxtrot, Modern Waltz, Viennese Waltz and numerous forms of Latin dances.

Originating somewhere betwixt the late 18th and early 19th century in England, ballroom dance was practiced by the privileged class in parties and balls.  By degrees over time and during the nineteenth century, ballroom dance became a fad among the working classes and middle classes who took part in social dance events.

In the nineteen hundred twenties, the reputation of ballroom dance contests rose dramatically with the result of the setting up of the Ballroom Branch of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing in Nineteen twenty-four that was instrumental in standardizing the steps, music and performance of ballroom dance.  Today, ballroom dance is performed not only in Europe, but in the Asian-Pacific and the Americas as well.  Official ballroom dance contests referred to as DanceSport are commonly available for ballroom exponents with various degrees of skill levels.

The different ballroom dance types originate from different backgrounds and have unique aesthetics, rhythms, techniques and tempos.  Despite these differences, all ballroom dance types do share similar traits.

Executed by a couple (generally by a male and a female, these dances demand that they perform in a set pattern which is prominently referred to as the ‘Close Hold’.  This position requires the two people to maintain five areas of contact – three hand contact points wherein the man’s left hand holds the woman’s right hand, the woman’s left hand is positioned on the man’s right upper arm and the man’s right hand is placed below the left shoulder blade on the woman’s back;  one elbow contact point wherein the woman’s left elbow is placed on the man’s right elbow and both arms are maintained in a horizontal line contributing to the ease of movement; one chest contact point wherein the right area of the chest of the man touches the right area of the woman contributing to the expression of feelings and emotions between the two.

In conclusion, ballroom dance is a fashion that will never die away given the manifestations of love, joy and pain between 2 people.

Ballroom dancing shoes 1

Sunday, June 7th, 2009

Ever since I watched Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck dance elegantly to some beautiful tunes on the movie “Roman Holiday” I have always wanted to be able to dance the ballroom. There is something so romantic about being swept around a ballroom floor by a handsome man in the lead. But what would be the fate of those of us dancing with the wrong ballroom dance shoes?

Ballroom dance shoes need to fit many criteria.

For one, and obviously, they need to be comfortable. No matter how good a pair of ballroom dance shoes look, it’s pointless getting them if it hurts to dance in them.

Ballroom dance shoes need to fit well and shouldn’t slip off mid-dance. Heels height has a part to play too. Ballroom dance shoes for women cannot afford to be too high, as then the lady will be more worried about if she may trip and fall or may even be worried about her grip on the floor. Although ballroom dance shoes need to have heels of a particular height, anything above that height will only cause discomfort, and may not allow the lady dance for too long. Surprisingly, this applies to men too. Men need ballroom dance shoes that have a heel as well, but anything too short or too high will only make the pair of shoes too uncomfortable for the man to dance in. And comfort plays a huge role when ballroom dancing.

Whether you buy your ballroom dance shoes at a store, or get them made especially for you depends on your budget and preferences. While store bought shoes do have variety, buying them makes it more likely that you’ll purchase a common design. Custom made shoes are a tad bit more expensive as they are made to fit your feet perfectly, but they can be varied in design, and so will definitely stand out in the crowd as well.

Ask your dancing instructor what type of ballroom dance shoes you need and where you can get them from, as he/she will probably know best. The right ballroom dance shoes will be an added highlight to a perfect night.

Even though ballroom dancing is different from free style dancing and has certain steps and techniques that one needs to know, it is not a necessity to attend a class to learn the basics. With the battle of trying to balance work and family life, an individual might find it difficult to attend a ballroom dancing class and learn the basics. This is where a ballroom dancing DVD becomes useful.

It’s true that attending a ballroom dancing class would mean that a person will be able to interact with more people, helping them build new friendships, etc. But what of a person who is unable to find time to do even that? Having a ballroom dancing DVD means that you can still learn the steps without attending a dancing class.

A ballroom dancing DVD can teach you to dance by giving out the instructions. A ballroom dancing DVD can be really helpful for an individual who is shy to attend a dancing class and who lacks social skills. Attending a class would mean that he or she will be surrounded with a number of people learning to dance. Making even a simple mistake could be disastrous for someone who is very self-conscious. Such type of people resort to using some type of ballroom dancing DVD as it teaches all the steps they need to know.

Sometimes you might be able to get your hands on a ballroom dancing DVD that lets you listen to your own type of music. By doing this, a person would not feel the stress which would otherwise be felt if they were in a dancing class with other people. You are able to learn the steps at the comfort of your home, whenever time permits you.

Most of the ballroom dancing classes are expensive. But if you purchase a ballroom dancing DVD, it would cost you only one-third of it. Practice sessions can be held whenever you like.

The DVD’s can be watched by both young and old. All you need is a passion for ballroom dancing. A good ballroom dancing DVD will have a complete set of basics helping you twist and glide in no time.

Ballroom dance lessons 2

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009

Ballroom dance lessons are not a very common pastime for most people. And it is not everyone who even has the liking towards ballroom dance lessons in the first place. Ballroom dancing is not for everyone, and unless you have an inclination towards letting yourself sway to a certain kind of music, chances are you will never sign up to attend ballroom dance lessons.

Until very recently, ballroom dance lessons were not held everywhere, and finding classes for ballroom dancing was not easy. It was only a select crowd who would be interested in ballroom dance lessons, and it also had the added disadvantage of the fact that it could be a bit costly.  With the recycling of a lot of old trends, ballroom dance lessons have gained a younger audience and become more popular. As the last few generations concentrated more on other forms of dance, the present one is forced to join ballroom dance lessons so they can show off their knowledge of this classical art.

Because of the grace and elegance associated with ballroom dancing, there has been a dramatic increase in interest in it in recent times.

There are ballroom dance lessons that cater to those shy individuals who dislike learning things in big crowds, although the most common mode of delivery is the group session. Many couples who are going to get married book themselves into ballroom dance lessons as they want to know how to dance perfectly on their special day, and most of the time they are given private classes. Ballroom dancing requires a lot of preparation and physical well being as well, as it is something that has to be done with a lot of focus and dedication.

There is also the fact that ballroom dancing helps in the overall physical health of every individual, and so many sign up for ballroom dance lessons as they want to lose weight, but do it while they have some good fun.

Ballroom dances

No matter where it is, whether at a party with others or all by your lonesome at home, great music has a way of getting feet tapping and bodies moving. Of all the kinds of dances around the world, one form of dancing has been looked upon as a form of art as well. That is ballroom dancing.

Ballroom dances are many and varied currently, but at the beginning it was quite a narrow range of dances. Ballroom dances are a set of dances that require partners, and are now seen both in the social arena and in competitions around the world. Initially, ballroom dances were an elite dance form, with folk dancing being relegated to the poorer levels of society. Lately, however, ballroom dances have become popular amongst people from all walks of life as an addition to their social skill-set. The younger generation have become interested in these kind of ballroom dances, and more and more are visiting dance studios in an effort to learn this elegant dance form.

Ballroom dances require a lot of agility, physical strength, concentration and coordination from both men and women, and it is no wonder then that some look on ballroom dances as a source of exercise, although in a much more fun way! There two official styles of ballroom dances accepted in the United States. They are American Smooth and American Rhythm. Ballroom dances like the Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot and Viennese Waltz fall into the first category - American Smooth. These are all dance styles that are considered classical.

The American rhythm includes dances like Cha Cha, Rumba, Mambo, Bolero and East Coast Swing.

These more modern ballroom dances, benefit from the contribution of Latin American influence. All this just goes to show how much the style of ballroom dancing has evolved over the years and across continents as well.

Ballroom dancing is something that each of us has to learn at least to be able to say that at some point in life we knew how to dance like they did in the ‘old days’. Dressing up, and dancing to smooth music with a great partner is guaranteed to make anyone feel special and is a one of a kind experience.
