Billiards Pool Table

Saturday, February 13th, 2010

With the game of billiards comes the discussion about the billiards pool table, the billiards cues and the billiard balls. Choosing the correct billiards pool table can have a definite effect on your overall performance as a player. The quality, style, the size and design of the table are what must be often looked for. Let’s take a closer look at each point and consider how one must select the best type of billiards pool table they want.

Before getting a billiards pool table, you will have to measure the room you are going to put it in. Will it be enough for the billiards pool table? What about the players who will be in the room? Will they have enough space to move around with a huge billiards pool table in the middle? Having an idea about this is beneficial before purchasing a pool table.

Most pool tables usually come in 7, 8 or 9 foot measurements. Many players opt for the 8 foot billiards pool table as the ideal size for a home games room. The 9 foot billiards pool table is used in clubs and offices that have a large area of space. The 7 foot table can sometimes be too small.

Lighting is an important factor that must be considered once the purchase of the billiards pool table is done. Usually, the light will be directed from the top, a place centrally located on the pool table.

Today many people select different colors as the felt color for their billiards pool table. When there are different shades to match the ambience of the game room, you will obviously have many options to choose from without being stuck to the traditional green or blue.

Experts say that the finish of a billiards pool table says a lot about it. This must be the reason why some people spend hundreds of dollars on it. Hardwood can give one of the best finishes, whilst the more traditional look could be achieved by the use of oak, cherry or walnut.

Another thing that most pool players will focus on is the material used for the bed of the billiards pool table. This is situated beneath the table and is usually made from wood, slate or sometimes by using a synthetic material.

Designing a High End Billiard Room

A high end billiard room is a great way to use empty space in your home in a way that’s fun and entertaining for the whole family! Billiards is a great game that has been around for centuries and can be enjoyed by people of all ages. For this reason, billiard rooms are one of the most popular types of game rooms in America. Once you’ve designed your billiard room, I’m sure you’ll find that it will quickly become everyone’s favorite room in the house.

The Layout
The first step in designing your game room is making a layout. A layout can be made with just a pencil, paper and a measuring tape. You should start your layout by first measuring the dimensions of your game room. Make sure not to overlook the space needed for doors to open and shut comfortably.  Once you know how big your game room is, you can decide what to put in it, and where to put it. Many people who are planning to build a new home will actually factor in and design a game room or high end billiard room from the start – which is the best way to cut costs on getting the billiard room initially.

The Billiard Table and Decorating
Obviously, the first addition to your billiard room will be your billiard table. Choosing a proper billiard table can make or break your billiard room depending on what you decide. High end billiard tables are made from solid wood. Cheaper tables will be made with wood, but with a laminate layer on top, and won’t last as long, nor will they play as well. You should also make sure the sub-rails of your billiard table are made from solid wood as they won’t wear down as easily. Also, be sure to check the percentage of “live gum rubber” that makes up the rail cushion. A higher percentage of live gum rubber denotes a better quality. The best quality of rail cushions won’t negatively impact game-play as they will provide the most accurate rebound of billiard balls. Once you’ve chosen a billiard table, and unique custom pool cues, you can begin decorating your billiards room. Start decorating by choosing a billiard lamp. Billiard lamps hang from the ceiling above the billiard table, providing proper light for the players. You can choose the style and color of billiard lamps to compliment the style and color scheme of your billiard room. You may also want to look into a custom hard top pool table cover, to protect your new billiard table.  Another good option for billiard rooms is a stereo system. Surround sound speakers are an excellent idea, but you should be sure to hide the speaker wires, as these can look tacky when they’re run all across the room. You can hide speaker wires by tucking them under the carpet, and make them inconspicuous by running them up and down the corners of your billiard room. You should have fun designing your high end billiard room, as you and your guests will likely be spending a lot of time enjoying it for years to come!

pool cues

Pool cues come in all different types and styles, from classic to contemporary.  You will find that there are bright colored cues, wood cues, and designed cues for you to choose from.

If you are looking for a plain cue and cue case that looks more like a traditional house cue, you will want to consider a Sneaky Pete type pool cue.  It is a two-piece pool cue that offers a more traditional look, rather than a more custom look, and this is what many players want.

Why should you choose a Sneaky Pete Cue for your game?

If you want to downplay your pool playing skills and “hustle” your friends, a Sneaky Pete can be just the cue stick for you.  This pool cue looks just like the house models and can make them think that you just picked up a cue before playing, rather than bringing one from home.  Even though it is two-piece, in some brands of cues, this is almost impossible to tell, simply because of how well they are made.

The unique custom pool cues are beautiful, but if you want to just have a good pool stick that you can enjoy playing with, the Sneaky Pete model of cue may be just the one for you.  It has a toned down appearance, but it is still stylish and can give you a solid hit.

If you prefer a stick without any design or decoration, this pool cue is the right choice for you. The Sneaky Pete type pool stick may have gotten its name from the hustlers of old, but you don’t have to be a hustler to enjoy it.  This two-piece pool cue stick is an excellent choice if you enjoy playing billiardsl at your friend’s house or if you simply enjoy the look of it.  Consider a Sneaky Pete Pool Cue for your game today!

Tips For Measuring For Your Replacement Pool Table Felt

viking pool cues

A well loved and often used pool table sometimes needs a little sprucing up. A replacement pool table cloth can go a long way to giving your table a new life to help it fit into your home décor, to upgrade the surface of the billiards table, and to make it more fun to play on. This is something that you can choose to do yourself for maximum value. You only have to measure your pool table carefully to be sure that you order the right size of replacement cloth for your particular table.

Measuring is one of the most important facets of replacing your table felt. Incorrect measurements will cost you time and money, so you want to be sure that you measure your table surface carefully. You want to measure from rail to rail to get the width and length of cloth that you need, but be sure that you add enough extra to be able to wrap the cloth around the surface of the pool table.

Replacement pool table cloth comes in basic sizes, with the widths of three and four feet and the lengths of 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, and 12 feet, depending upon the manufacturer. You will be stretching the replacement cloth over the surface of your billiards table and want to have a slightly larger piece of cloth than the surface of your playing surface, so order your replacement cloth accordingly.

Replacement pool table felt also comes in many different colors to allow your billiards table to enhance your room, rather than stand out and detract from the décor. Whether you want to go with the common green or you want to be more adventurous in shopping online for your table design, you will find a replacement cloth that will fit your needs and your own decorating style.

Pool table replacement cloth comes in different qualities to allow you to find the right one for your needs and for your budget. A worsted wool cloth can keep you from having to deal with the little balls of fuzz or piling of your table cover and will last for a very long time. The higher the content of wool, the better that the table cloth will hold up, so keep this in mind when choosing your replacement cloth. You can give your billiards table a new look for aesthetics, upgrade the replacement felt to one that is higher quality, or replace your cloth that is worn out.

Websites like CornerPocketPool.com offer a wide assortment of hard top pool table covers, in a wide variety of styles and colors to fit most needs.

Tips For Choosing the Best Pool Cue For Your Game

Sunday, December 20th, 2009

choosing a cue

There are many factors that go into making you the best pool player you can be, but one of the most important is getting the right cue, and the best cue case. When you begin shopping for that perfect pool cue, here are a few things to consider:

The ideal weight

Getting a cue that is the correct weight for your skill level can advance your game. A heavier cue, weighing 20 or 21 ounces, is recommended for a beginner because it stays on line better.  Heavy cues are less likely to drift with a not-so-perfect stroke.  As your skills develop consider moving to a lighter cue, 19 ounces or less.  Lighter cues allow you to better control the speed of the cue ball.  You may also want to check to see if a weight bolt is built in for adjustments.

Sizing up the tip

Pool cue tips range between 11-14 mm with the standard cue tip being 13 mm. The standard size is best for beginners. The tip width can be decreased with experience allowing for more precise control of spin.  The tips come in different degrees of hardness.  Softer tips give a better feel of the shot when starting out.  Harder tips do not become flattened as easily as soft tips. On a more professional level, harder tips are needed.

Personality of your cue

Often a person will enjoy choosing a certain decorative inlay or color to further personalize their pool cue, but this may increase the price.  On the other hand, many people prefer more simple cues that do not draw as much attention to themselves.  You must decide which is best for you.

Amount of investment

Consider the amount you are willing to invest on a cue based on your level of play. Brand name cues tend to be more affordable and best for beginners.  A good quality mass produced cue usually sells for around one hundred dollars and up.  Cues can also be custom made and can sell for several hundred up to thousands of dollar. As your level of expertise increases, then a predator p3 black luxe pool cue or even unique custom pool cues may become more practical.

After evaluating these aspects, you should be able to better select a pool cue that is suited to your needs and level of play.  Try out different types of cues to find what you like. Most importantly make sure you find a cue that you feel comfortable and confident using.

My Tournament And Correct Use Of Billiards Rack

Friday, September 25th, 2009

Billiards game is really popular as a good billiards game gives enjoyment and fun and can be kind of opportunity for socializing. The billiards has different tools and good to know how to use them rightly, e.g. the rack…
I’m pretty sure everybody knows what a billard rack is. It is that triangular thing that is used to arrange billiard balls at the beginning of every game. Each game has unique regulations for racking.

Usually it is the foul spot of the pool table that is used as the apex. The proper position to place the racked balls is marked by the foul mark which is a small marking. While it is arranged the yellow ball 1 will be placed at the apex and the ball 8 will be placed in the middle while all other balls will be placed in random order. Sometimes the balls are placed alternating with a solid and a striped ball, this is mostly seen in amateur competitions. Two things to watch out for are that the apex stays on the foul mark and the opposite side sits parallel and near to the table end. It is important that the balls are packed tightly together or when the break shot is made they will not break properly. Push the balls toward the apex with the tips of your fingers so they are packed tightly.

Various games take up different ordered racking of the balls. Such as for straight pool the 1 ball is placed at the right corner and the 5 ball is placed at the left corner. All other balls stays in order. Where a game of bank pool and one ball is played the billards rack can be placed at random.

Even though a diamond-shaped billiards rack is used for the game of nine-ball, the triangular shaped billiards rack can be used and most of the time is during a nine-ball game. The difference with diamond shaped racks are that one of the two corners will be placed as the apex while the other corner will point at the table closest to its end. Remember to place ball 1 at the apex for a game of nine ball billiard because it is expected that the cue ball hits on the lowest numbered ball on the table on each shot. It really doesnt matter how the other balls are placed, though.
