With the red and yellow set, you get 7 red balls and 7 yellows and a black 8 ball and with the American style set you get 7 solid colours numbered 1 through 7 and 7 striped coloured balls numbered 8 through 15 and of course the black 8 ball. The object of the game is to pocket all the balls of one colour or number set (1-7 and 8-15) , and then the ‘eight ball’ to win the game.
The pool cues have subtle differences between the two codes, with English players preferring a tip of eight or nine millimetres.5 mm used on cues for the smaller table and 12 or 13 mm sized tips used on the larger tables with the larger balls.
